• An interview between Andy and Maggie Smith, a poet who recently published a book about the creative process.
• I need to go back and re-listen to the episode and take more thorough notes, but my main takeaways are:
  • There's this idea in creativity that ideas just 'come to artists' from this mystical, almost supernatural force
  • and this idea that someone either is or isn't an artist, based upon whether they have a connection to the ^^ mystical force.
  • And while there is a certain sense of magic about creating (cf Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert)
  • There's also like, real skills and practices that anyone can cultivate, and tools one can acquire and master, to be a creative
  • Andy refers back to the idea of inspiration has to find you working
  • The notion that when we describe creativity as this mystical thing, we actually reduce it and make it less accessible
